On September 21, 1997, while cruising off the bank of Virginia, the billion-dollar rocket cruiser shivered to a stop. Yorktown was dead in the water. Warships are intended to withstand the strike of a torpedo or the impact of amine. In spite of the fact that it was defensively covered against weapons, no one had thought to defend the Yorktown from zero. It was a grave mistake. The Yorktown’s PCs had quite recently gotten new programming that was controlling the motors. Sadly, no one had recognized the time bomb lurking in the code, a zero that designers should expel while installing the product.
