It was throu^i the ii^tiativc of Dr. Ji Xiaulia» the eminent Buddhist and Sanskrit researcher, presently the Vice-ChanccUor of Peking University that 1 undertook this difRcuh however mteresdng task o( managing Chuan (Biography of Emiaenc Monks) by I-ching as there was no finished English trattdatbn of the text Under is the capable direction I undertook the work with much K«£atation. 1 am extremely thankful to him.
