Description
Raskolnikov was not used to swarms, and, as we said previously, he kept away from society of each sort, all the more particularly of late. However, presently at the same time he felt a longing to be with others. Something new appeared to be occurring inside him, and with it he felt such a hunger for organization. He was so exhausted following an entire month of concentrated horror and melancholy fervor that he ached to rest, if just for a second, in some other world, whatever it may be; and, disregarding the griminess of the environmental factors, he was happy currently to remain in the bar.
The ace of the foundation was in another room, yet he regularly descended a few stages into the principle room, his jolly, tarred boots with red transform over tops coming into see each time before the remainder of his individual. He wore a full coat and an appallingly oily dark glossy silk petticoat, with no cravat, and his entire face appeared spread with oil like an iron lock. At the counter stood a kid of around fourteen, and there was another kid fairly more youthful who gave whatever was needed. On the counter lay some cut cucumber, a few bits of dried dark bread, and some fish, hacked up little, all smelling unpleasant. It was intolerably close, thus weighty with the vapor of spirits that five minutes in such an environment may well make a man alcoholic.
