The Machine Stops

Description

The Machine Stops is a short sci-fi story. It depicts a world wherein practically all people have lost the capacity to live on the outside of the Earth. Every individual lives in separation in a ‘cell’, with all real and profound needs met by the all-powerful, worldwide Machine. Most people invite this turn of events, as they are wary and dreadful of direct understanding. Individuals overlook that people made the Machine, and treat it as an enchanted element whose necessities supplant their own. The individuals who don’t acknowledge the god of the Machine are seen as ‘unmechanical’ and are undermined with “Vagrancy”. Inevitably, the Machine catastrophically crumples, and the development of the Machine reaches a conclusion.
