The appearance of Alexander the Great in the Land of Israel in 332 B.C.E. at the head of a huge overcoming armed force dispatched the experience between Judaism and Hellenism. For Jews, this experience would challenge a lifestyle that heretofore had been characterized by the laws of the Torah as deciphered by the prophets and, since the hour of Ezra, by the copyists.
