Dufay, at about a similar time. The Germans, from 1740 to 1780, made numerous investigations. In 1740, at Leyden, was found the container which bears that name. Prior to that time, all investigations started and finished with frictional power.

The main endeavor to “bottle” power was endeavored by Muschenbr[oe]ck, at Leyden, who considered that power in materials may be held by encompassing them with bodies which didn’t lead the current. He charged some water in a container, and correspondence having been built up between the water and the prime transmitter, his right hand, who was holding the jug, on attempting to withdraw the imparting wire, gotten an abrupt stun.
