In London he was welcome to take a shot at a PhD at the University of

London under the oversight of Professors William Robson and Hugh

Seton-Watson. A few subtleties on his initial scholarly impacts and

interests are given in the Introduction to this volume. On finishing

his PhD in 1954 he got back to Australia to take up an instructing position

in Russian examinations at the Canberra University College, the archetype

to the showing resources of the Australian National University. In 1956

Leonard Schapiro, whom Harry had known in London, came to Canberra and welcomed him to re-visitation of London for a year to help him on a

new exploration venture.
