Book Name: Finish Forty and Home
Writer: Phil Scearce
THIS BOOK IS ABOUT MY FATHER, Herman Scearce, and the men he presented with during WorldWar II, youthful aviators of the eleventh
Bombardment Group’s 42nd Bomb Squadron. They fought secretly in the early long stretches of the war in the Pacific. By the time America directed
its full concentration toward the Pacific war and eleventh Group B-24 Liberator bombers arrived at a striking separation of Japan, the fabulous
new B-29 Superfortress arrived and took focus stage. My father flew strike missions as a radio administrator and heavy armament specialist on a
Liberator, arranging from Hawaii to strike little Japanese-held island focuses from island bases excessively little and poorly-equipped to fill in as
lasting bases. These bombarding missions were loaded up with the perils of foe contender capture, concentrated antiaircraft fire, and unforgiving
separation. My father’s unit and the remainder of the eleventh Group
stirred their way up the central pacific. As American powers attacked and took Japanese islands, the eleventh progressed and began flying missions
against the following adversary focus in the chain, doing combating closer
with each step to the Japanese home islands. The objective for American
aircraft crew members was to get credit for forty strike missions, an objective that appeared to be incomprehensibly far off in the beginning. A
few, similar to my father, completed forty and returned home, however, numerous men weren’t so lucky.
