lamenting on his bunk in a military clinic. He had recently discovered that
the ruler of Germany, Kaiser Wilhelm II, had stomach muscle located and
that a republic had been announced in Berlin. What stunned Hitler much
more was the news that the war had been lost. The cease-fire marked the
next day was, indeed, commensurate to a German acquiescence. In Hitler’s
psyche, the cease-fire and the new republic had not come about because of
Ger-man routs on the combat zone.
