Writer: MATTHEW MASON
On 11 April 1794, Oliver and Lucy Everett invited their fourth child,
Edward, into their home in the Boston suburb of Dorchester. Oliver, who
came from a long-standing but instead unexceptional Massachusetts family,
had raised his financial and social situation by acquiring training from
Harvard and the post as a clergyman of Boston’s New South Church. In 1792
he lost this pastorate because of interminable medical issues, and the family
moved to Dorchester to regain Oliver’s quality. His wellspring of
employment is dim until 1799 when he became an appointed authority in
the region Court of Common Pleas. While the family was headed by a man
regarded in Dorchester for his psychological forces, at that point, Edward
and his kin were brought up in lower-average material conditions at
best.1Both his dad’s model and the family’s monetary circumstance guided
young Edward’s feet toward training as the way of upward portability.
