The George Henry Thomas was conceived at his family home, Thomaston,
close to Newsom’s Depot, Southampton County, Virginia, five miles north of
the North Carolina fringe, on July 31, 1816. His dad, John C. Thomas, was of
Welsh plunge, and his mom, Elizabeth Rochelle, was slid of French
Huguenot progenitors who had fled France during the rule of LouisXIV to
