This moderately concise book is an abstract of my two-volume life of
Lyndon B. Johnson, distributed in 1991, Lone Star Rising, and in 1998,
Flawed Giant. It’s anything but a modification of those examinations yet an
endeavor to bring them inside the scope of a more extensive crowd,
particularly students, that has neither the time nor the tendency to peruse
in excess of 1,200 pages on Johnson’s life and times. While setting up this
dense history, I had a chance to contemplate this unprecedented man and
reevaluate his effect on public prosperity. Debates about Johnson’s
administration, which remained moderately serious when I distributed the
primary volume twenty years after he had left office, have now, after
fifteen years, died down.
