Newdick’s Season of Frost By William A. Sutton

Book Name: Newdick’s Season of Frost

Writer: William A. Sutton

These thirteen minichapters, clearly written in different pieces of 1937 and

1938, were what Professor Robert S. Newdick, of the Department of English

at the Ohio State University, had the option to finish before he passed on out

of nowhere of an infected appendix in July 1939 at 40 years old. His

companionship with Robert Frost, started by correspondence in July 1934,

had grown so that, by 1935, he was taking a shot at both a book index and a

history. From 1935 till his passing both Newdick and Frost thought of

Newdick as Frost’s biographer. Especially after Lesley Frost Ballantine read

the Newdick original copy in August I972, with excitement for the manner

in which she felt Newdick had gotten the soul of the dad she knew, it has

been believed that Newdick’s work, however incomplete, ought to be

distributed. It will be seen that Newdick had started the way toward

absorbing a lot of new (and up to this time unpublished) data, increased

through devoted examination just as through his meetings with his subject.
