A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is a semi-personal novel by James Joyce, first serialized in The Egoist from 1914 to 1915 and distributed in book structure in 1916. It delineates the early stages in the life of Stephen Dedalus, an anecdotal change sense of self of Joyce and a sharp suggestion to the quintessential skilled worker of Greek folklore, Daedalus.
