Lady, most importantly, was his game. Each lady pulled in him. No lady held him. Any new lady, anyway plain, quickly obscured her forerunner, anyway excellent. The way that affectionate interests overshadowed all others was very enough to make him dubiously disagreeable with men. Tall, strong, elegant, hair thick and somewhat wavy, whiskers pointed and brilliant earthy colored, eyes fluid and since quite a while ago lashed, ladies called him “intriguing.” There was, besides, consistently a slight bit of the pleasant in his garments; he was ace of the little loving tricks which charm coquettish ladies.
