Description

With this Mrs. Rachel ventured out of the path into the patio of Green Gables. Green and flawless and exact was that yard, set about on one side with incredible man centric willows and the other with tidy Lombardies. Not a wanderer stick nor stone was to be seen, for Mrs. Rachel would have seen it if there had been. Secretly she was of the assessment that Marilla Cuthbert cleared that yard over as regularly as she cleared her home. One could have eaten a dinner off the ground without overbrimming the famous peck of soil.

Mrs. Rachel rapped intelligently at the kitchen entryway and stepped in when bidden to do as such. The kitchen at Green Gables was a merry condo—or would have been chipper on the off chance that it had not been so agonizingly perfect as to give it something of the presence of an unused parlor. Its windows looked east and west; through the west one, watching out on the back yard, came a surge of smooth June daylight; however the east one, whence you got a brief look at the sprout white cherry-trees in the left plantation and gesturing, slim birches down in the empty by the creek, was greened over by a knot of plants. Here sat Marilla Cuthbert, when she sat by any stretch of the imagination, in every case somewhat wary of daylight, which appeared to her too moving and untrustworthy a thing for a world which was intended to be paid attention to; and here she sat presently, sewing, and the table behind her was laid for dinner.
