It makes no misrepresentation at being the full and complete history which its subject requests: to do equity to such a real existence, one that was so cosmopolitan, significant, and loaded up with enthusiastic unsettling would require a few volumes and a large number of pages of text and notes. Such a life story should anticipate the total distribution of the works and correspondence of Constant, a task that will run well into the following century.
