The principle character, Emma Woodhouse, is depicted in the initial passage as ”attractive, sharp, and rich” but on the other hand is fairly ruined. Because of the ongoing marriage of her previous tutor, Emma values her capacity to matchmake, and continues to encourage an ill-conceived vagrant, Harriet Smith, whom she plans to offer to the vicar, Mr Elton. So certain is she that she convinces Harriet to dismiss a proposition from a youthful rancher who is a considerably more reasonable accomplice for the young lady.
