Description
The87th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry held an uncommon spot in the hearts of nineteenth-century York and Adams regions’ occupants. It was a locale that flourished basically on the individual work ethic of German and Scotch-Irish ranchers, specialists, and little representatives, a peaceful zone spotted with several one-room schools and little churches, some of which were the strict dwelling places of the Society of Friends. None-the-less, when the country announced war upon itself, the region sent thousands of children and fathers to war, and more men took up weapons to serve militia duty during emergency circumstances caused by crusades that finished with the extraordinary skirmishes of Antietam, Gettysburg, and Monocacy. Men joined a wide range of units, however, the87th Pennsylvania was the area’sonly homegrown three-year regiment.
