A language is never a thing, regardless of whether its speakers in some cases do whatever they can to transform it into one—to make it an “it.” The thoughts individuals have about their language might be things, and as such may have a history; all things being equal, the language will consistently surpass those thoughts and, given certain essential conditions, will continue to develop and along these lines to satisfy the natural, unsure, and enthusiastic predetermination encoded in its sentence structure.
