It was the outcome eagerly foreseen by the masters of the Privy Council who comprised the official crowd, by the individuals from the House of Commons and other fashionable Londoners who stuffed the room and held tight the rails of the balcony, by the London press that lived on outrage and processed outside to see how this embarrassment would unfurl, by the crowds that purchased the papers, savored the outrages, revolted for their saints and against their villains, and made legislative issues in the British royal capital often unpredictable, regularly notorious, continually engaging.
