The cruiser disappeared once again into hyperspace and he was distant from everyone else in the perception bubble, 10,000 light-years past the world’s peripheral sun. He peered out the windows at the massive ocean of void around him and pondered again what the risk had been that had so frightened the men before him.

Of one thing he was at that point certain; he would find that nothing was holding up outside the air pocket to slaughter him. The principal bubble specialist had ended it all and the second was a careless insane person on the Earthbound cruiser yet it more likely than not been something inside the air pocket that had caused it. Or, in all likelihood they had envisioned everything.
