Underneath him the levels dropped away to the principle deck, streaming lines and bends, expansive sheets of clear plastic, vivified signs, the grass and flowerbeds of a little park, individuals strolling quickly or inertly. The colossal gyro-settled mass didn’t move observably to the long Pacific swell. Pelican Station was the settlement’s “downtown,” its shops and theaters and cafés, administration and amusement.
