I was partner and ally to that exceptional man Cuthbert Tonstal, whom the King, with such all inclusive praise, of late made Master of the Rolls; yet of whom I will say nothing; not on the grounds that I dread that the declaration of a companion will be suspected, but instead in light of the fact that his learning and ideals are excessively incredible for me to do them equity, thus notable, that they need not my recognitions, except if I would, as indicated by the saying, ‘Show the sun with a lamp.’ Those that were selected by the Prince to treat with us, met us at Bruges, as per understanding; they were all commendable men. The Margrave of Bruges was their head, and the central man among them; yet he that was regarded the most astute, and that represented the rest, was George Temse, the Provost of Casselsee: both workmanship and nature had agreed to make him expressive: he was found out in the law; and, as he had an extraordinary limit, along these lines, by a long practice in undertakings, he was able at unwinding them. After we had a few times met, without going to an understanding, they went to Brussels for certain days, to know the Prince’s pleasure; and, since our business would let it be known, I went to Antwerp.
