Seton is the foundress of the American Sisters of charity, and the principal

born Elizabeth Ann Bayley on August 28, 1774, in New York City; both her

folks were Episcopalians and she was raised in that faith. She wedded

(January 25, 1794) William Magee Seton, a wealthy New York shipper, and

the couple had five kids. During a visit to Italy, Mr. Seton passed on

(December 1803), and there Mrs. Seton, having become familiar with an

Italian Catholic family, started to learn about Catholic confidence.
