fiddle with patent prescriptions. In the spring of 1886, stirring up the
substance of a forty-gallon metal pot with a wooden paddle, brewed the
main clump of a dull, sweet syrup intended to be served with carbonated
water and sold at the city’s soft drink wellsprings.
