Book Name: Sharp Objects A Novel
Writer: Gillian Flynn
My sweater was new, stinging red, and appalling. It was May 12 yet the
temperature had plunged to the forties, and following four days shuddering
in my shirtsleeves, I got to cover at a flea market instead of burrow through
my boxed-winter garments. Spring in Chicago. In my gunny-covered
workspace, I sat gazing at the PC screen. My story for the day was a limp
kind of fiendishness. Four children, ages two through six, were found
locked in a room on the South Side with two or three fish sandwiches and a
quart of milk. They’d been left three days, flurrying like chickens over the
food and feces on the floor covering. Their mom had strayed for a suck on
the line and just failed to remember. Now and again that is what occurs. No
cigarette consumes, no bone snaps. Simply a hopeless slipping. I’d seen the
mother after the capture: 22-year-old Tammy Davis, blonde and fat, with
pink rouge on her cheeks, in two wonderful circles the size of shot glasses.
