Freshman year of school we’re taking off on an excursion to Milwaukee to
see a major event. We’re in the vehicle. We have a fifth of vodka, the gallon
of squeezed orange. We’re prepared to get stacked and party. Just as we
begin to drive, Chris says, “Stop!”We stop the vehicle, and he pulls out a
rosary. We need to stay there in the vehicle and say multi-decade of the
rosary—ten Hail Marys and an Our Father—before we can leave. At that
point, he balls the rosary up in his grasp, throws it in the glove
compartment, pummels it shut, takes a gander at all of us, and says, “Well,
it’s in Gods hands now.” And we hit the road. On June 24, 1994, life for Chris
Farley was acceptable. He had quite recently completed his fourth season
on NBC’s Saturday Night Live and was making his mark as one of the most
promising stars in American parody.
