Johnny Cash, or J. R. Money, as was recorded on his introduction to the

world testament (on the grounds that his parents couldn’t choose a name),

grew up cherishing music and looking for throughout his youth. The Cash

family made the two-day, 250-mile trip to Dyess Colony, in Mississippi

County, upper east Arkansas in March 1935. They settled in Homestead No.

266 on Road No. 3, to deal with twenty sections of land of rich flatland delta

earth. The family had moved from Kingsland, Arkansas, to Cleveland

County, in a truck with all that they claimed. It was simply Ray Cash,

Johnny’s dad, his mom Carrie Cloveree Rivers Cash, more seasoned siblings

Roy and jack, and sisters Margaret Louise and Reba. J. R. was three, and

Joanne and

Tommy was not conceived at this point. The family had a battery-worked

radio that youthful J.R. would tune in to in the wake of returning home

from work in the cotton fields. He loved the nation and gospel music that

was communicated from radio broadcasts in places as far away as New

Orleans, Oklahoma, Chicago, and Texas.
