Book Name: The Man in Song
Writer: JOHN M. ALEXANDER
Johnny Cash, or J. R. Money, as was recorded on his introduction to the
world testament (on the grounds that his parents couldn’t choose a name),
grew up cherishing music and looking for throughout his youth. The Cash
family made the two-day, 250-mile trip to Dyess Colony, in Mississippi
County, upper east Arkansas in March 1935. They settled in Homestead No.
266 on Road No. 3, to deal with twenty sections of land of rich flatland delta
earth. The family had moved from Kingsland, Arkansas, to Cleveland
County, in a truck with all that they claimed. It was simply Ray Cash,
Johnny’s dad, his mom Carrie Cloveree Rivers Cash, more seasoned siblings
Roy and jack, and sisters Margaret Louise and Reba. J. R. was three, and
Joanne and
Tommy was not conceived at this point. The family had a battery-worked
radio that youthful J.R. would tune in to in the wake of returning home
from work in the cotton fields. He loved the nation and gospel music that
was communicated from radio broadcasts in places as far away as New
Orleans, Oklahoma, Chicago, and Texas.
