Book Name: The Rainbow Troops A Novel
Writer: Andrea Hirata
THAT MORNING, when I was only a kid, I sat on a long seat outside of
school. The part of an old filicium tree concealed me. My dad sat adjacent to
me, hugging my shoulders with both of his arms as he gestured and grinned
to each parent and kid sitting one next to the other on the seat before us. It
was an important day: the primary day of rudimentary school. At the finish
of those long seats was an open entryway, and inside was an empty study
hall. The door jamb was warped. The whole school, truth be told, learned
on the off chance that it would implode at any second. In the entryway
stood two instructors, like hosts inviting visitors to a gathering. There was
an elderly person with a patient face, Bapak K.A. Harlan Efendy Noor, or
Pak Harlan—the school head—and a young lady wearing a jilbab, or
headscarf, Ibu N.A. Muslimah Hafsari, or BuMus for short. Like my dad,
they additionally were smiling. Yet Bu Mus’ grin was a constrained grin: she
was anxious. Her face was tense and jerking anxiously.
