Book Name: The Second Amendment Biography
Writer: Michael Waldman
On April 18, 1775, Boston was an involved city. Ringed with checkpoints and
sentries stuck with majestic soldiers of the world’s most grounded armed
force, the town of sixteen thousand was swollen with 5,000 British troopers.
It was also latticed with spies and progressive boards. That evening, word
came from a few sources: the British regulars would walk the following day.
Dr. JosephWarren, a Patriot coordinator, rushed to check this with the
revolutionaries’ best-placed informant, assumed by antiquarians to be the
American spouse of British general Thomas Gage. She affirmed: the military
regulars would leave town that night. They would cross the Back Bay and
walk through the towns outside Boston.
