Book Name: Woodrow Wilson
Writer: John Milton Cooper
Every year, in the first part of the day on December 28, a military honor
guard carrying the American banner presents a wreath that bears the
words”The President.” Accompanying the ceremonial group are individuals
from the clergy, who convey a cross and state a supplication. The church is
because the wreath-laying function happens before a burial chamber in the
Washington National Cathedral. Since the day is just seven days after the
winter solstice, the low point of the morning sun causes bright colors from
the recolored glass windows to play over the floor of the alcove where the
burial chamber is situated, over the stone coffin, and in the words cut on
the dividers. The nook contains two banners, the Stars and Stripes, and the
orange and dark protected ensign of Princeton University. The wreath-
laying happens on the birthday, and at the final resting place, of the
thirteenth leader of Princeton and twenty-eighth leader of the United States,
Woodrow Wilson. The function and the burial chamber catch much about
this man. The military presence is fitting since Wilson drove the country
through World War I.
